Grow to School is a not for profit Community Interest Company founded in 2011 by Ama Chaney and Zana Wood.
Grow aims to give children access to some of their most memorable learning experiences, help them make sense of the world around them and put their learning into a meaningful context through being outdoors.
Our mission is to:
- To support schools to take the curriculum outside the classroom & create meaningful learning experiences
- Help schools to make the most of their outside space
- Share resources to help teachers take learning outdoors
- Put children in touch with where their food comes from through growing, cooking and eating it
- Help children learn about and care for the natural environment

Meet the team
Grow to School is organised and delivered by an enthusiastic and professional team of four qualified individuals. All practitioners are enhanced DBS checked, have current first aid and Level 2 Food Hygiene certificates and are practised in carrying out and updating risk assessments.
Ama ChaneyDirector and Outdoor Practitioner
Ama has a degree in Environmental Science and worked in environmental conservation for many years. She loves growing her own food and engaging with the environment and biodiversity. The parent of two children, she knows first-hand the important role the outdoors plays in cultivating curious minds, healthy bodies, and environmental stewardship in children.

Vashti MacLachlanOutdoor Practitioner
Vashti has a degree in Drama and delivered drama workshops in schools for many years. She is now a qualified horticulturalist and garden designer and would be lost without her allotment of 20 years standing.
We are growing as fast as the vegetables and fruits…..we will miss doing the ace activities with you. Wish us luck!!!
Zana WoodDirector and Outdoor Practitioner
Zana Wood has been working in schools for over 25 years. She takes a creative practical approach to learning outdoors and specialises in developing curriculum based sessions that are informative and enjoyable.

Kathy’s has a degree in Environmental Management and has many years’ experience working for local authorities and environmental organisations. She has a passion for the environment and wildlife as well as 20 years’ experience of productive allotment growing.
I’m really enjoying Grow, you make gardening much more fun than my Grandma, and I’m learning so much stuff
