The Toolkit for food growing and outdoor learning in schools
Most schools aren’t getting the most out of their growing space. Teachers tell us that time, knowledge, pupil behaviour and keeping their class on task while outdoors are stopping them going outside more.
Drawing on thirteen years’ experience we have created
The Growbag: an affordable, easy to follow package of resources and support that facilitates food growing, nature connection and an outdoor curriculum all in one Toolkit.
Which Growbag is right for you?
“It is a delight to work with Grow to School. We have set up 7 growing beds that have become an integral part of our outdoor learning and Science curriculum. The support and advice is crucial to our success and our practitioner has exceptional knowledge and is always on hand for advice..”

The Growbag Training for Teaching Staff
If you have space for growing in your school but have questions about who, what, where, when, and how, you’re not alone. Schools increasingly reach out to ask us:
- how to start and manage a garden in the space they have available?
- how to up skill and increase staff confidence to teach growing?
- how to use the garden to enhance and deliver the curriculum?
- how to maintain the space when they have little time and money?
- what to do with the produce they do grow?
The Growbags training provides a deep dive into how your staff can use the garden as a teaching and learning tool more and feel confident to do so. You will also come away with a bespoke action plan that works across your school!
We have worked with 1,785 teachers and developed this package of training to address these issues raised by you. As a result, 97% of teachers gained practical skills and knowledge and felt more confident to take their classes out.
“Grow to School have really helped me with taking learning outside. I’m much better able to consider risk but allow freedom. Before I may have considered all the risks and therefore not done the activity.”
Teacher, Netherhall Learning Campus Junior School, Huddersfield
Please note – Travel expenses for training are charged at £0.45 per mile.
