The Toolkit for food growing and outdoor learning in schools
Most schools aren’t getting the most out of their growing space. Teachers tell us that time, knowledge, pupil behaviour and keeping their class on task while outdoors are stopping them going outside more.
Drawing on thirteen years’ experience we have created
The Growbag: an affordable, easy to follow package of resources and support that facilitates food growing, nature connection and an outdoor curriculum all in one Toolkit.
Which Growbag is right for you?
“It is a delight to work with Grow to School. We have set up 7 growing beds that have become an integral part of our outdoor learning and Science curriculum. The support and advice is crucial to our success and our practitioner has exceptional knowledge and is always on hand for advice..”
Elizabeth Ward, Ashfield Valley, Rochdale
The Growbag Max
With tight budgets and limited time, many teachers feel overwhelmed by the idea of reviving a neglected garden or growing vegetables with their class. Yet, tending a school garden helps children develop life skills, understand where food comes from, and enjoy the well-being and enrichment benefits of nature. It also provides real-world science context and valuable screen-free time.
The Growbag Toolkit provides a tried and tested programme for year-round growing, outdoor learning, and nature connection.

“The Growbag Toolkit has hugely impacted our wider curriculum in terms of looking at the outdoor classroom layer. For example, in our science curriculum, our children are now looking at how plants produce food – this also links to seasons, seed dispersal and food and nutrition.”
Gillian Wilson, Headteacher, St Oswald’s CofE Primary Academy, Bradford
